A bit about me
My name is Helen Attwooll, a Licensed Acupuncturist. I have always been interested in complementary medicine and its ability to support and nurture us through different phases of our lives, as well as helping us to maintain optimum long term health. I am particularly interested in how acupuncture can benefit the whole family, including children. I am professional, committed and caring and aim to provide treatments that focus on a patient’s best interests with a sensitive and thoughtful approach. I practice both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Five Elements Acupuncture. I am also a fully qualified yoga teacher with a special interest in rehabilitation after injury and this experience helps when treating patients with musculoskeletal issues.
I have experience treating both male and female patients for a broad range of conditions such as; pain, injury, stress, gynaecological issues (including menopause, fertility and birth preparation) headaches, anxiety, sinusitis, insomnia, digestive issues, side effects of chemotherapy and fatigue.
Children can benefit hugely from acupuncture treatment too and I have completed further training enabling me to treat children for conditions such as: chronic and recurrent ear infections, bed wetting, digestive issues, recurrent coughs and colds, asthma, allergies, growing pains, exam stress and anxiety.

Treatment
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been practiced for over 2,000 years and is an ancient healing system that aims to bring balance and harmony back into your system to promote optimum health. No patient is the same and so treatment is individualized to you, the patient.
Treatment starts with an in depth Traditional Diagnosis that allows me to look at you as a whole. This broader approach allows me to assess a patient’s whole body, as well as examining the symptoms of the illness itself. This holistic approach provides improved general health and wellbeing as well as resolving your main condition. I believe that what we put into and take out of our body has a strong influence on our health and sense of wellbeing and I will often include dietary and lifestyle advice in your treatment sessions which is specifically tailored to you.
Acupuncture treatment may consist of the use of acupuncture needles or other treatment modalities such as moxibustion, cupping and guasha.
Moxibustion: A gentle technique which uses a therapeutic herb, Moxa, over acupuncture points or areas of the body to bring warmth and energy to the area. Moxibustion is often used to treat children and to turn breech babies.
Cupping: Involves using suction to place glass cups on the skin over acupuncture points or meridians. Cupping improves circulation, moves stagnation and promotes healing. Sliding cupping, where oil is applied to the skin and the cups are swept over the skin, is a wonderful treatment for relieving tension.
Guasha: Involves using a jade tool to “scrape” across an area of skin to improve circulation and clear stagnation. It is often used to treat musculoskeletal issues and colds.
