A bit about me
My name is Helen Attwooll, a Licensed Acupuncturist. I have always been interested in complementary medicine and its ability to support and nurture us through different phases of our lives, as well as helping us to maintain optimum long term health. I am particularly interested in how acupuncture can benefit the whole family, including children. I am professional, committed and caring and aim to provide treatments that focus on a patient’s best interests with a sensitive and thoughtful approach. I practice both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Five Elements Acupuncture. I am also a fully qualified yoga teacher with a special interest in rehabilitation after injury and this experience helps when treating patients with musculoskeletal issues.
I have experience treating both male and female patients for a broad range of conditions such as; pain, injury, stress, gynaecological issues (including menopause, fertility and birth preparation) headaches, anxiety, sinusitis, insomnia, digestive issues, side effects of chemotherapy and fatigue.
Children can benefit hugely from acupuncture treatment too and I have completed further training enabling me to treat children for conditions such as: chronic and recurrent ear infections, bed wetting, digestive issues, recurrent coughs and colds, asthma, allergies, growing pains, exam stress and anxiety.

I believe that acupuncture
can have amazing benefits for the whole family, from insomnia in adults to allergies in young children.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been practiced for over 2,000 years and is an ancient healing system that aims to bring balance and harmony back into your system to promote optimum health. No patient is the same and so treatment is individualized to you, the patient.
Treatment starts with an in depth Traditional Diagnosis that allows me to look at you as a whole. This broader approach allows me to assess a patient’s whole body, as well as examining the symptoms of the illness itself. This holistic approach provides improved general health and wellbeing as well as resolving your main condition. I believe that what we put into and take out of our body has a strong influence on our health and sense of wellbeing and I will often include dietary and lifestyle advice in your treatment sessions which is specifically tailored to you.
Acupuncture treatment may consist of the use of acupuncture needles or other treatment modalities such as moxibustion, cupping and guasha.
Moxibustion: A gentle technique which uses a therapeutic herb, Moxa, over acupuncture points or areas of the body to bring warmth and energy to the area. Moxibustion is often used to treat children and to turn breech babies.
Cupping: Involves using suction to place glass cups on the skin over acupuncture points or meridians. Cupping improves circulation, moves stagnation and promotes healing. Sliding cupping, where oil is applied to the skin and the cups are swept over the skin, is a wonderful treatment for relieving tension.
Guasha: Involves using a jade tool to “scrape” across an area of skin to improve circulation and clear stagnation. It is often used to treat musculoskeletal issues and colds.
Acupuncture’s ability to treat a wide range of illnesses and to promote health and wellbeing is now well recognised and scientifically researched.
- I have found that my treatments with Helen have been immensely helpful to me, I have also found them to be enjoyable and interesting. My issues have been reducing, I now feel less anxious and my physical symptoms are now less of an issue. I would recommend Helen as I find her sympathetic but not indulgent, practical and thorough, and I look forward to my treatments with her.KWFemale - Migraines
- Whenever I go away, flying and swimming always seem to start the problem I have with my ears and give me anxiety about travelling. I didn’t know anything about acupuncture but as soon as I met Helen she put me at ease and was so caring. Helen soon diagnosed the problem and after a few weeks I was feeling a lot better. I had no ear ache and was able to swim everyday. Many thanks Helen for your time.CChild 12 - Chronic recurrent ear infections

- I met Helen when I sought acupuncture treatment in order to mitigate the effects of chemotherapy, she is a delightful individual, both friendly and personable. For me the benefits of acupuncture have been profound. When the side effects of chemo were raging at their worst, treatment by Helen left my body feeling calmer and I felt more in control. The difference was noticeable and family and friends even commented on how much better I looked afterwards.BWMale - side effects of chemotherapy
